Stone Oak “Bones Up” With New Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon

Elizabeth Magnabosco, M.D. Pretty much every kid has suffered a bump, bruise, strain or pain at some time or another resulting from a sports injury, horseplay or a minor accident.  But when things are more serious, it’s nice to know that Elizabeth Magnabosco, M.D. is now practicing in the Stone Oak area. Dr. Magnabosco is a Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon. When she’s not at North Central Baptist Hospital doing surgery, she sees between 30 and 50 children a day at her office, treating everything from congenital developmental issues like scoliosis, to trauma, sports injuries and more.

“The number one question I get from parents is, ‘How do I know if my child needs to be seen by a doctor?’ says Dr. Magnabosco. “I tell parents, if it’s crooked or bleeding, go to the ER. On the other hand, if a couple of days have passed, and they can move their fingers but can’t lean on the arm, they need to be seen by a doctor.”

Dr. Magnabosco decided to go into the pediatric subspecialty of orthopedics because she loves taking care of  kids. A mom of two young children herself, she says her patients can turn a bad day around for her. “If I’m having bad day, as soon as I start seeing patients it gets better. They’re silly and funny, and they want to get better. I treat every family how I would want to be treated if it was one of my kids - and it all works out.”

Dr. Magnabosco also enjoys seeing a wide variety of cases and the immediate results that are possible in orthopedic surgery.  “In adult orthopedic surgery everything is pretty specialized. You see a shoulder specialist for a shoulder injury, a hip specialist or knee specialist for each particular disease or injury. But in pediatric orthopedics you take care of all sorts of problems.”

A typical day is hardly typical for Dr. Magnabosco. Surgery days start at 7:30 a.m. in the operating room. She may do one long scoliosis spinal fusion or six separate cases in a day. On clinic days she does rounds in the hospital, then goes to the office to see patients from nine to noon, eats lunch at her desk while doing paperwork, returning calls and going over imaging reports, then it’s back to seeing patients, sometimes until 6pm. In between all that – she sees patients in the emergency room at North Central Baptist Hospital when needed. After hours she is often on call for unexpected emergencies or follow-up.

Originally from Southern California, Dr. Magnabosco says she got to Texas as fast as she could. She earned her undergraduate degree at UCLA, attended medical school in Chicago, completed her Internship and Residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and accomplished a Fellowship in Pediatric Orthopedics and Scoliosis at Texas Scottish Rite in Dallas. After being in private practice for ten years, Dr. Magnabosco decided to join the Baptist Physicians Network.

Her new office, Pediatric Orthopedics at Stone Oak, is located at 19026 Stone Oak Parkway, Suite 100. Because she is able to do X-Rays in the office, many patients can be taken care of in one stop, rather than going to an urgent care setting, then to the pediatrician and ultimately to the orthopedic surgeon.
