Baptist Health System is privileged to have amazing nurses who day after day truly make a difference in the lives of their patients. Whether they are helping to bring a new life into the world, rushing to stabilize a patient in the Emergency Room, or monitoring a post-op patient to make sure they are comfortable and emerging safely from anesthesia and surgery, every nurse’s role is crucial.
When Caring is your Calling Educating caring nursing professionals has been an important mission at Baptist Health System for more than 100 years and something that is possible through Baptist Health System’s School of Health Professions (SHP).
The school recently relocated to a beautiful new campus located in the heart of the medical center which has allowed more students to enroll in classes which prepare them to enter careers in nursing, medical imaging, sonography, and surgical technology.
“We have more than doubled the school’s enrollment with this move to a larger facility,” said Chief Learning Officer and Dean, Karen Stiefel, Ph.D. “So we are very excited that the school’s increased capacity and cutting edge facilities will mean we can graduate more healthcare professionals to help address the current shortage of healthcare professionals in San Antonio and elsewhere.”
In addition to increased capacity at the school, updated clinical labs, classrooms and better parking is now available to students. The high-tech learning environment provided at the school offers a first-of-it’s kind Distance Learning Program in partnership with Abrazo Health Care in Phoenix, Arizona. Distance learning classes are taught in real time, with students and instructors in both cities connected via live, interactive satellite video communications, allowing the SHP students to interact with one another and with the instructor.
Each year the graduating class of nurses and technicians from SHP enter the health care field as highly sought after and expertly trained professionals. We are proud of our graduates and proud of the work that these individuals do day after day in hospitals and doctor’s offices throughout San Antonio and across the country.
Whether newly graduated or with years of experience at the bedside, the nurses of Baptist Health System have our gratitude, our respect and our thanks as angels of faith who help guide our patients and our hospitals in a positive direction.
